So here is our 'Rome in a Day' part 2! Picking up where we left off, we had just finished exploring the Vatican Museum. We had to make our way back to the meeting point at the Spanish Steps and we decided it was the perfect time for some gelato ... when in Rome! Unfortunately for us the Trevi Fountain was being restored while we were there but we were able to stroll through the Piazza Navona which holds the Fontana Dei Quattro Fiumi. The stunning fountain represents four major rivers; the Nile (Africa),  the Rio de la Plata (America), the Danube (Europe), the Ganges (Asia). On the tour we passed the Vittoriano Monument - built to celebrate the uniting of Italy as a nation - and we were told that when the bronze statue set outside was originally completed there was a celebratory dinner held in the horse's stomach before they closed it up. That just shows how big these monuments really are! I was particularly awed by the ruins of the Roman Forum. Some of these ruins have been uncovered as little as 20 years ago - in truth, ruins are still being uncovered in Rome today! We ended our tour at the grand Colosseum. Unfortunately we were too late to go inside but it was still an amazing sight. After a huge day we were excited for a bit of rest but not before an epic feed. We dined at Cantina & Cucina where we both tried a starter of crispy roman artichoke. I then had pasta and Luke had pizza. A perfect day in Roma.
